(Especially in a festival arrangement like this.)

Unfortunately, this post was made 3 days after the fact, I probably forgot some other gems that Steven threw out. I kept pace with the blogging for the first 4 days.Chris Cowanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06858747614649204300noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9454353.post-3835733949122024602009-03-24T15:05:00.000-05:002009-03-24T15:05:00.000-05:00A couple of unrelated comments regarding this post...A couple of unrelated comments regarding this post:

Little Stevie left out an important piece of info regarding music, at least one that I have recently come to believe. It is that music does not carry the "weight" that it used to for the majority of today's listeners. It's been commoditized to the point where it's become a decoration, much like wallpaper. I've been to enough gigs (my own and others) to notice that a lot of people are talking most of the time, stopping only to applaud (if that). I remember when music, no matter the caliber of musician nor import, caused everyone to sit up and pay attention. There was an energy to it. I think people just don't value it the same way these days. Blame it on MP3's (free music), the death of radio (you can argue that the death of that commons killed the idea of a shared experience) and games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band that have "Democratized" the making of music. Also I think our corporate masters have contributed to it's overuse in what is mainly a mercantile context.

Glad you got a chance to see Devo. I saw them at CBGB's in 1977 when they did their Monday audition night gig there. They blew everyone's mind. It was quite and evening and everyone was talking about it for days afterwards.

BTW, thanks for posting all the stuff on SXSWi,f and m. I'm envious!Joe Shadehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08822741572181099106noreply@blogger.com
